To Trend Or Not To Trend?

We constantly are bombarded with the design question: what is the latest trend? In paint, this often leads to “What is the “in” colour right now?” This can be very important for people looking to sell their home or for those who are painting a commercial space. First impressions are extremely important in both instances & having the latest, hottest paint colours on the walls are a sure fire way to wow people. But, what if you are planning to paint your home & plan on staying for an extended period of time? What do you do?

Painting trend colours in your long term home is a fantastic option if you are the type of person who likes change & is willing to invest the time & energy needed to change paint colours regularly. Painting three walls in a room in a neutral colour and then creating a bold accent on the fourth wall is a great way to embrace a trend colour. Pick the right neutral and you may be able to try a few different bold trend colours in the same room over time with a minimum of effort.

Another fantastic way to bring trend colour choices into your home is to paint them in small rooms or low traffic areas which reduce the inconvenience of painting often. A bathroom or a powder room is a good place to indulge yourself in a trend colour because it is often a small area to paint while being an area where you can use a bold colour choice. Bathrooms & powder rooms can be painted quickly and you usually have a spare so you aren’t putting your kitchen or master bedroom out of commission while you paint. Do you want to know another great place for a trend colour? The formal dining room. It isn’t usually in use everyday and as a result, it isn’t an inconvenience while you paint it and it isn’t a room that you spend massive amounts of time in so there is little chance of getting bored of the colour.

Now you are probably asking: what if I don’t like trend colours or hate painting and all of the work that goes into it? In that case, I recommend picking some timeless colours for your main areas & rolling with what you personally like for your accents. Don’t let someone tell you that beige is “so out” if that is what you like. Dig a baby blue? Hey, it isn’t my choice but guess what? It’s your house so do what makes you happy! After all, you do you & be happy about who you are because no one should be judging the home you live in and what you like.

So, in short, if you like to make changes regularly and are okay with the work that it involves, get your paint mojo going and embrace the use of trend colours. If you are a “like what I like” type and just want to put some quality paint on the wall to last for the next 5-10 years, pick a timeless colour or do what you like, design naysayers de darned. After all, it’s your house & shouldn’t you be happy with it the way you want it?

I use a WordPress site from GoDaddy. I’m not a tech guy so I’m not sure how to improve an existing site. I do know that WordPress is designed to be mobile friendly which is extremely important nowadays. I hop this helps.
